Carlton Terrace
A full restoration of a Grade-A listed apartment
The client wanted to completely restore this apartment back to its former glory. Sadly, it had been stripped of its original features due to various commercial uses over the years.

Brief
The client’s brief was to create a contemporary, flexible living space rooted in the Georgian values of harmony, light and symmetry. Though the property was designed by Scotland's most renowned nineteenth-century architect, William Henry Playfair, none of the original features remained. In the 1920s, the property formed part of a hotel. In the 1970s, it was a nursing school for the NHS.
The scale and complexity of this restoration had the potential to present a number of challenges so we worked closely with Block Nine Architects to minimise any disruption.
Execution
We executed this project with an unparalleled attention to detail. The property had effectively been white-boxed by its various commercial occupants—it was completely unrecognisable as a home, but also as a building from the nineteenth century.
In an attempt to reintroduce the property to the period in which it was from, we consulted neighbouring properties. These properties, with their original features intact, served as our template for this restoration. Our team created profiles of the skirting boards, architraves and other mouldings and created exact replicas. You’d never know that these hadn’t been there all along.
Testimonial
“BANN went out of their way to deliver everything I asked for on what was a very demanding, but worthwhile, project. I have recommended them to neighbours and relatives and know that they’ve delivered a great service for these individuals too.”
