A contemporary extension to a terraced house
Throughout, the refurbishment was guided by the client’s eclectic style and preferences.
Brief
The client’s brief was to maximise space for family living. The addition of a rear extension drastically increased the house’s original square footage.
Execution
Working with One Designed, we expanded this small, terraced house and flooded it with light and space. There’s something quite magical about the way in which this property opens up as you progress further into it. The sense of space is truly remarkable, and it is completely unexpected from when you first arrive at the front door. This theme runs throughout much of the renovation; it’s full of surprises and quirks. The child’s bedroom has a secret door out onto the internal glass balcony, which is housed in the bespoke roof light.
The home was in need of some TLC. Internally, we conducted a full re-wire and re-plumb. We installed a brand new, state-of-the-art heating system too. Throughout the ground floor, underfloor heating sits beneath the engineered wood flooring. We plastered and re-decorated every single room. There’s numerous examples of bespoke cabinetry throughout this home, including the wardrobes in the master bedroom. Our team created these to the client’s exact specifications. They also installed the new kitchen; the kitchen itself was supplied by Howdens. The Corian® worktops were sourced from John Lewis.
Externally, the roof was stripped and new slate tiles were added, which instantly refreshed the property’s kerb appeal. We installed zinc dormers by D. Blake & Co—a contemporary look, but one that is sensitive to the pre-existing sandstone. New windows and doors were installed throughout the property, sourced from Express Windows and Doors. The extension features a bespoke roof light by Skylight International. It provides a beautiful focal point to the rear of the property.
